We are excited to bring you the next in-person NYC Ableton User Group meetup! As always, the meetup is open to producers, songwriters, DJs, and musicians of all types and proficiency levels looking to exchange ideas, network, meet like-minded producers, and learn new tips and tricks from our presenters and fellow participants. This month’s presentation will be an intro to Max for Live. Begin your journey towards building your own interactive performance setups, sonic landscapes, and custom instruments that push the limits of your production skills.
During the event, you will also have the opportunity to see the 343 Labs facilities, meet some of their instructors, and learn about their courses.
This month’s Ableton User Group will be hosted by Liam Read
Liam Read is a Canadian music producer based in New York. With his classical piano background, Liam combines traditional roots with a decade’s worth of Ableton Live experience to create his own earthy flavor of electronic music. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Caroline Polachek, Flume, and Bonobo, Liam’s productions are defined by a commitment to spontaneity, texture, and atmosphere.
Liam’s presentation will cover the fundamentals of MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) and how it can be used in a variety of genres to manipulate strings, synths and more. We’ll look at a few MPE controllers and explore how you can even take advantage of MPE without a dedicated MPE controller.
With a career that started in the early days of house and techno at New York’s notorious Limelight, Abe Duque has been at the head of the acid-house and underground-techno table since his earliest releases way back in 1992. Between touring the world’s underground techno scenes, releasing on labels such as International Deejay Gigolo, Tension, Abuse Industries, and Rapture, and remixing tracks for household names such as Chemical Brothers and Pet Shop Boys, Abe later turned his attention to education, where he is now considered one of the most respected educators in New York City.
